The name actually has an interesting origin; foreign whalers and fishermen saw orcas hunting large whales. They told english-speaking people that the orcas were 'whale-killers'. In the translation, someone messed it up and got it backwards, so instead of 'whale-killers' they became killer whales. So maybe it's OK to be surprised by whale-killers turning on humans. Maybe.
Interesting. I will lay off the 'whale-killer' trainers who feel badly done by when they're crudely dunked by their captive wild creatures. I will still secretly be rooting for the orcas though.
